Disability – Social Security Disability Defined
If you wish to receive Social Security Disability benefits, you must be totally disabled. This means that you are unable to perform any kind of work. Also, your disability has lasted or is expected to last for at least one year. If it may result in death, you may obtain benefits.
The situation you are in can be due to a physical or mental condition, or a combination of a number of conditions. If you are found to be totally disabled, Social Security benefits will continue as long as you meet the terms and conditions of being disabled.
There is no age requirement for the receipt of Social Security disability benefits. If you are receiving Social Security disability benefits at age 65, your benefits will be converted to retirement benefits.
