General Issues

Your doctor’s opinion is important to your Social Security Disability claim.

Your doctor’s opinion is incredibly important to the success of your claim; Social Security should accept your doctor’s opinion of your physical and mental limitations, if your doctor’s opinion is well supported by medically acceptable clinical and laboratory diagnostic techniques and is not inconsistent with other evidence in your records and statements. This means your doctor’s opinion is supported by all of your records and not contradicted. If your doctor would like to assist in your claim for disability benefits your doctor needs to write a letter giving your diagnosis and how your illness affects your ability to do work related activities. Social Security will not accept a statement from your doctor saying “my patient is disabled” because Social Security reserves the right to decide if you are disabled under their rules. If you need more information please contact our office.
